Stained is a side-scrolling, platforming and combat action game set in an ancient, mysterious castle featuring detailed 3D environments with a continually changing game world. Events in Stained are triggered by breaking objects placed in and around the castle, and outcomes are determined by the combination of glass pieces that litter the ground, leading to a variety of experiences. Novel ways to break objects have to be thought of at times, which will keep the player guessing what the next puzzle will be. In any fight in the game victory is usually temporary, as defeated foes may form again, or reassemble to form entirely new ones. The gameplay is fully interactive and physics based – each character’s uncanny abilities have to be kept in mind to think of innovative ways to proceed through the game!

Ok, finished the game. The fact that you didn't need to flip the parallelogram is disturbing, since a few level before, you could flip the parallelogram. (The level before the prison), and if I remember correctly, you need to flip. I figured out since a long time how resolve the puzzle, but since I couldn't flip the figure, I didn't figure out how put the left low piece.

Here's my review: Good game but with too many defaults. First, the game is slow. Not because I have a bad computer, but the gameplay is slow. Secund: the wall jump: Really hating it. It have a bad control. Third: You can't solve puzzle as you please: there is one programmed walkthrough for each puzzle, but a lot of puzzle could be solved by differents methods. The puzzle idea is really good but bad used.

If you made a second game, here's how I see it: a Metroidvania, where you can collect freely the pieces of stains, each puzzle could be resolved how you want (It's possible by considering that each piece is a combination of the same triangle several times) , need to find blueprint to make your upgrades. For the upgrade that allow you to progress, you need to gain piece dropped only by bosses (example: need a round piece). A gameplay a little more dynamic (I don't ask for something with combo, special hit, etc, but as it's here, it's not good).

I really like the idea of the monsters that can recombine into something else and the fact that you need to create your objects. But, sorry to say that, your game uses badly these mechanics, it's too scripted.

I sincerely think that you have your place on the indie market and really hope that you make other games and progress further, but I can't consider Stained as a great game..

And for the running: All the other actions are rapidly needed to progress, bu the running is needed relatively lately. Plus, running isn't a main feature in plattform games. Except Mario, I don't know plattform games where you can run by pressing a button. The contrary is more common: Press a button for walking. (But let walking as the main movement. It's more in the quiet atmosphere of the game.) (It's just my opinion, so you may disagree).

Secund: The game crash after that. When I relaunch it, I had all the levels unlocked, even the ones that I haven't reach, except the abandonned mine. I refinished the previous level, got the same problem with the puzzle but the level is still unavailable from the menu. Uninstalling/Reinstalling didn't fix it.

Game crash and all levels getting blocked is something I am hearing first time, I guess it might be happening because you uninstall and reinstalled the game.

I am sending you the solution to unlock the levels via PM.

Sprint is fairly obvious action while running or jumping, and so it was not mentioned. All the control options are presented in the option screen though.

Sprint is a "fairly obvious" action that doesn't exist as a separate control in probably 95% of platform games. And the shift key alone doesn't do anything, so it's really pretty non-obvious unless we refer to the control options (and why would we think to do that when the game appears to be telling us the controls when we start and it introduces arrow keys?)

ovnidemon (in the comment below) had the same problem I did, on arriving at the prison level, so it's evidently not *that* obvious. :)

Another thing that could do with improving if it's not behind some sort of intractable code barrier - the between level screens of text should be loading the level (and doing the progress bar) *before* you click start, not after. I understand this might be something made difficult by the engine though.

The level screen yes it could be done the other way, but we realize this is the most robust way to do it.
