TripleA is a free turn based strategy game and board game, similar to Risk, or Axis & Allies. Known for its multiplayer on the online lobby, it also allows Play-By-Email and network (LAN) play, as well as single player vs AI or hotseat. It has over 100 games and maps that can be downloaded from the user community. It is open source, needing only Java 5 to run (can run on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc). Supports savegames, encrypted dice gen, low luck, and other options.
Recreate World War 2 with the Axis pushing through to Moscow and Japan devouring the Pacific, or recreate Napoleon's march across Europe, or Rome defeating the Carthaginian Empire, or even Sauron conquering Middle Earth, or Zombies taking over America! If you have ever played a game where you push little plastic/virtual pieces around, roll dice, conquer the lands of your enemy, & produce new pieces to conquer with, you will be able to jump right into TripleA!

Has this game withered up and died among many War Simulations? :(
No, I'm still working on it. Lots of new stuff for 1.7 coming up, I just don't have time to blog about it or w/e.
I think we normally have a release once per 2-6 months. And I aim to have a new stable once per year.
I installed this a couple of months ago but couldn't get any sound and it was sooo laggy. I was on UE 3.4 at the time though.
On the latest Linux Mint now so may give it another go.
1.6.1.2 had sound turned off by default. Now with 1.6.1.4 we have sound turned on by default (because we added a lot more, nicer, sounds, and felt it was finally good enough to be turned on).
I also use Linux Mint, and with the exception of a few small quirks with the windows not always opening to be fullscreen, I have not encountered any problems. Let me know how it goes.
Just played it, 10/10 thanks thoroughly enjoyed that. Forgot how difficult it was though, got my butt kicked.
Great game, well done!
Wish there was a proper WWII scenario though, starting in 1939 with Russia & America & Japan joining later like in real life
It is so annoying that i can't make peace nor declare war in this game.. in any map.
How can i do that?
Some maps have politics, some maps do not. Politics is a relatively new feature, so it is only available on some maps.
In addition, most maps follow very specific rules that do not have politics in them.
For example, the Classic, Revised, Anniversary, and Spring 1942 editions do not have any politics in their official rulebooks, so of course our recreation of them will not have politics either. (These games take place in 1941 or 1942, so it is just the Axis vs. the Allies).
Global 1940 has politics in the rulebook, so there is politics in this game.
Maps that I know have politics are:
Global 1940
Pacific 1940
Europe 1940
Total World War
Napoleonic Empires FFA (free for all) 8 player and 5 player versions
We have a new tournament running: The Battle of the Ages!
$40 to the grand winner, and $5 to almost all participants. (Prizes are sponsored by the Historical Board Gaming web store)

We were waiting for a more stable release before we brought it to Desura. Anyway, everything should be updated now that 1.6.1.2 is out.
This will be updated and fixed next week, sorry for the delay...
