Dwarf Fortress is a single-player fantasy game. You can control a dwarven outpost or an adventurer in a randomly generated, persistent world.
The world is randomly generated with distinct civilizations spanning over 1000 years of detailed history, dozens of towns, hundreds of caves and regions with various wildlife. Command your dwarves as they search for wealth in the mountain. Play an adventurer and explore, quest for glory or seek vengeance. Extended ASCII character set rendered in 16 colors (including black) as well as 8 background colors (including black). Although Dwarf Fortress is still in a work in progress, many features have already been implemented.

This game is so amazing, don't be scared off by it's complexity.
I downloaded Dwarf Fortress then the Lazy Newb Pack and now it's asking if I want to remove or replace files? I just clicked OK on the recommended option...is this the correct way of getting this damn thing to work???

Took me a while to get into the game, but after following the "Total and Utter Newby Tutorial" for it, I began to actually care about the poor little dwarves...then they all died in the snow. XD
This game becomes like a whole new world, can't stop playing it.
its very confusing i got a little bit of it from reading other comments but i cant play like this but i think i just dont got the dungeon geek in me :,C
Get Masterwork DF pack! it has all the utility+UI and comes with thousands of new items and building types, like Fish Farm. + you get to play as a tribe of Orc and enslave Dwarves, I know you want that. >; )
