It's from the first Force Unleashed game. I think it's General Kota's theme.

Yessir. I've also attached a particle effect to the starfield model that generates a shooting star every now and again.

Hold the phone, does this mean you rewrote parts of the shader to include a parallax map? If so amazing job, if not, amazing job.

Its not an edited shader...its a faked effect that I came up with by getting creative with the existing shaders and star field models. I'm hesitant to reveal how on here though...don't want somebody hijacking my idea right before mod of the year gets started ;)

This is definitely a candidate for it. This effect is really impressive and adds a lot to the immersion. Those little details gives this mod such great profile. Fantastic work!

Looking good so far, couldnt see that there paralax'ing you where trying to show of, but it may be my inexperianced eyes.

Half and half I like the new interface, love that you could see what was going on in the background of it, it being transperent and all, but the outline kinda ruined the illusion a little. Now I just need some Caps ship renders to drool over and I will be set in waiting for the next big push of an update :)

The real impact of the parallax effect is best experienced in-game, like most things :) It is hard to see in such a small video...

Also, the transparency of the interface has been tweaked a bit. It's more opaque now, which fills in those outlines a little with the dark gray scheme. I give the outlines a little more purpose and makes them less out of place, imo.

Well, can't get the video to buffer enough to make watching it easy(sucky internet connection on my end). Will have to try again later.

This said, if it's anything like everything else you've done, then it'll be flippin' impressive.

However, I have to wonder if a lower end comp can handle it.

My current laptop is about as low-end as you can get; I paid $300 for it. It has an integrated graphics card, a crappy processor, and only 2 GB of ram.

That said, it runs the mod on med-low graphics with slight lag (sometimes there is noticeable lag, esp on land when shadows are enabled).

To truly experience the mod the way it's intended though, you will need a comp similar to my desktop, which is:

8 GB or ram, about 3 GHz quad-core processor (anything i3 or above will do fine, some older processors might even be ok), and Nvidia GTX 650 or better. My previous card was an Nvidia GeForce 9800 and it ran the mod ok. Some lag, when on full settings. No lag with my current graphics card.

Well, my laptop sounds similar to yours, although, I think mine can handle better graphics (except shaders, which, for some reason, work in the original EAW, but not in FOC).

Hmm...I can watch the video now. Now I wonder if you couldn't give the stars a twinkling effect.

Actually, the bloom shader does give an unintentional "twinkle" that looks believable...and that was a built-in feature from the original game! :)

As for shaders working in EaW and not FoC... Believe me, that has ****** me off to no end for a long time. I've narrowed it down to the computer's processor. The game is programmed for a very specific set of processors and doesn't recognize modern processors so it just guesses at what shaders to use. It's EXTREMELY inefficient and aggravating!! The worst part is that I know the problem but I have no idea how to fix it :(

Description

For those looking for a big combat preview with lots of action, turn back now! This simple, actionless, preview is strictly for showing off the new interface and the parallaxing feature that I've added to starfield models.

For those who are not sure what parallax is: It's basically the phenomenon that we experience where objects in the distance appear to be moving by us much slower than objects that are near. Pay special attention to the starfields as I pan around in-game and I you will see that there is an illusion of depth/distance/volume as some stars move by faster than others. It's a subtle effect but I think it really adds a lot to the immersion of space battles.
