Freeworlds: Tides of War is a fan built Star Wars total conversion mod for Digital Anvil's Freelancer game that was released several years ago. When fans began to make mods for Freelancer, one of the many things people were keen on seeing was a Freelancer mod based on the Star Wars universe developed by George Lucas. Freeworlds and Tides of War were the answer to this outcry. The development team of both mods have now joined forces to create an epic new Star Wars TC, Freeworlds: Tides of War.

Thats because on the first few releases, when there was tons of population, there were tons of bug, crashes, random glitches, performance issues etc. They were not fixed fast enough (3+ major releases I think) and it killed the community off from the start.

(I was one of them)

I haven't seen anything truly unique to make me want to come back either.

I don't want to derail this thread, but I will just briefly defend the mod here. Sure there were bugs in the early days but the majority of these were addressed in a timely fashion, and even the trickier ones are long gone now.

With regards to unique features there are many including fully integrated combined arms maps, cracking space maps and many vehicles not seen in other Star Wars mods such as the impressive Sentinel and Sandcrawler, solid co-op and singleplayer features. I think that First Strike has a lot going for it to be honest, and yes the community isn't what it once was, but we do arrange events to help players get the chance to have a full and rich multiplayer experience with the mod.

That's all I'll say on the subject here. Now back to your scheduled thread.

No worries, Talon. I think it is appropriate to defend the mod as it's an awesome piece of work.

I guess I need to clarify myself a little. I loved the gameplay of first strike itself. It was really fun, and I played it competitively for a bit.

However, 4+ months to fix the CTDs that happened every 10 minutes on the mods first releases was not timely (Yes, there were intermittent "fixes" but they didn't help much). That, coupled with EA killing 2142 itself for me (By ruining my favorite features: IE Gunship) kinda turned me off. So it isn't entirely the mods fault.

It was really fun to play, never said it wasn't but the glitches/bugs that were game breaking turned quite a people off... as if there were no testers.

The features you listed are not unique. Other battlefield mods (Such as Project Reality, Forgotten Hope, etc) have SP and Co-op. Combined arms is something I have yet to hear of, so not quite sure what it is. The many vehicles... quality =/= quantity. Guess that is the problem I have seen with battlefield mods, is that theyre about quantity of models, and maps. Probably why I got turned off by PR eventually as well because I couldn't learn the maps fast enough.

Another disclaimer is that I likely get the same experiences I do in first strike out of my own mod; including space fighting. So my point is likely a little moot.

Regardless, I am not saying that FS is a bad mod at all, its actually pretty good. Just explained why I left (Along with a few others).

MB2, first strike and galactic warfare were very good mods
most of em had a lot of people playing em, those mods should be redone, MB3 is already on the run but there should be a first strike 2 with another engine or galactic warfare 2
great mods! i wish ppl still play those

I agree with this. I would love to see a standalone FS2. Such that it isn't restricted so much by the cruddy battlefield sandbox engine.

Thanks @ Hakre :). <3 FW too :)
