I am an Amnesia: The Dark Descent custom story developer. I was the mapper for the custom story known as The Attic.
Our current progress right now of 11-19-11 is that we are currently working on the fully explorable outside town area. This is a large area with many buildings the player can enter. So far we have about 3/4's of this area done. We are adding a few extra buildings, detail, and scares before we will move on to the next area. We have about five maps currently finished, three of them going back through some of the areas from the first chapter (In none demon form.) We are going to add quite a few more maps too, to our list before final release. We currently have planned out a big chunk of the story and the path you will take. We will also include many secrets. You know that strange green body that crawls on the floor from the first chapter that some of you may have seen in the alter room? That is Wuhmbow and he will also be making a return to Chapter Two!
The next area we have planned after the outside area of the town is the city hall where much of the story will then take place. Please go to the news section here of the ModDB page and by then I will hopefully have the chapter two story up for all to see. Also there are pictures of chapter two and hopefully a trailer soon.
Current progress is that we currently have finished the outside town area (mapping wise) and are now moving onto the next part which is the Town Hall. We had a recent slight delay due to family gatherings for Thanksgiving but work will now continue as before. We are still deciding on how to do the scripting for the outside town for it may prove to be quite a challenge since there is a large area for the player to roam. Also the town hall was recently started and with it we are trying to go for the large castle like feels to it. Hopefully we can provide more screenshots and a trailer to go along with it eventually.
Well everyone, we've made good progress! We are currently working on the cellar of the town hall were quite a bit of the game will take place. I have to say, it looks fantastic! Detail, great scares, puzzles, all that good stuff being worked on. Also we changed up the outside area a lot, and improved it 100%! The trailer for Chapter 2 is now also under progress, but don't expect it till we get closer to release date. Chapter 2 will have A LOT of easter eggs as we have many planned out and some already done. They will be humorous and entertaining for those who can find them for they are well hidden. Trying to go as quick as we can here people, but school work and holidays may cause slight delay. (But not for too long!) We hope to get a first release going in January 2012 if we work hard enough. Expect it then!
We today have hit a major milestone! We hit 10,000 downloads for "The Attic: Chapter One" and are very pleased! Go here for some more details: Here!
Moving on... we are almost complete! We have reached 90% complete, and are now going through editing maps, scripting, scares, and secrets. But we have come up with a final release date which would be 1/14/12, if not earlier. We have spent much time and effort into making this a very enjoyable, and fun/scary experience for you. We hope it will be worth your time in the end, and that you will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. We have also decided that we WILL be creating "The Attic: Chapter Three" after Chapter Two is finished, released, and patched of any bugs. Thank you all for sitting through with us in our experience of creating our first custom story set. (Also sorry about all the delays we had on the release date, but I promise 1/14/12 is the real one ) We appreciate all of our fans and supporters, and to all who Let's Played our custom story! Thank you!
(This is a really late post! )
Chapter 2 is finally released and patched! It can be found and downloaded: Here! Now we can begin development on The Attic: Chapter Three! We have already made excellent progress on it and we hope to make it an even more enjoyable experience than the last two chapters.
So far I would say chapter three is only 10% complete but it is making fast progress. We do not have an official release date yet, and we probably wont have one till we get closer to release.
Also The Attic: Chapter One has reached almost 20,000 downloads! Thank you to everyone who downloaded and tried our creation. An especially big thanks to all who LPed our custom story! Thank you all!
We are making excellent progress on The Attic: Chapter Three! From what we've seen so far, we do believe that this could be the best chapter so far! We will be including outside environments in this one, but done right this time. The problem we had last time was that we we're using the outside area as a hub world and since we included scares and monsters into that map it looped some of the scares. If you we're to go into one of the buildings and come out any scares you encountered to your way there would be reset and repeat. Like I said though, we fixed this in Chapter Three!
Anyways, I just uploaded some pictures and the teaser trailer for The Attic: Chapter Three to ModDB so go check those out. We've also hit the amazing milestone of 20,000 downloads for The Attic: Chapter One. More information Here!
It has been awhile since I've done my last report on here, so I thought it might as well be the time to do it! We just recently got back to working on The Attic: Chapter Three because we we're waiting for school to end and Summer to arrive. Now we have bumped up the progress completed to 55%. We are still unsure of a release date, but we expect it to be in a month or two. (Possibly less!) There are going to be a lot of new entities, textures, and models in The Attic: Chapter Three, all custom made by our scripter JetlinerX! Now to talk about what we're doing after Chapter Three!
After Chapter Three we plan on combining all chapters into one big custom story called The Attic: Full! It will consist of all the chapters we've made, combined together, and heavily updated to fix any bugs/errors, and make it an overall better experience. If you have already played Chapter One or Two, I recommend NOT downloading The Attic: Full, and instead just download The Attic: Chapter Three alone. When we make The Attic: Full we are NOT completely changing the maps. Only bug fixing, slight redesign, and improvements, nothing completely game changing. Also once The Attic: Full is released we will leave the other independent downloads up for everyone who doesn't want to play through our ENTIRE custom story again! We hope to give you the best possible experience with our custom story, so we hope it'll be worth it!
We are very close to finally finishing The Attic: Chapter Three! All that's left to do is to finish up the scripting, bug test it multiple times, and release it for all of you wonderful people to play! So far this is our biggest chapter yet coming in at seventeen maps and half a gigabyte. There is a good bit of custom content in this one as well. We are hoping to release Chapter Three in a week or two. After that is released and made stable, we will begin to work on The Attic: Full which will consist of all chapters into one big custom story, updated maps, and fixes. If you have already played all the chapters there is no reason for you to download The Attic: Full since it will retain the style of the older version of the chapters.
For everyone's convenience, I will also be leaving the independent versions of the chapters up so they can still be downloaded! We hope that even after the long wait for Chapter Three, everyone will think it was worth it. We have put our everything into this chapter like original scares, shocking events, and an ending worth remembering. Thank you everyone for your patients!
So little left to do. All that's left for finishing up The Attic: Chapter Three will be to finish final detailing and bug testing. Sorry for dragging the release date out so long. We have kept coming up with new ideas and such to improve your overall experience. We are trying are hardest to make this our best chapter yet. After that comes The Attic: Full, but then what? Sadly after The Attic: Full is finished we will be moving on from Amnesia: The Dark Descent. We have grown bored of the engine and limitations of HPL2, and our going to be trying to create our own game, that we may or may not sell for money.
It's been a blast making this custom story, especially with the huge fan-base we've gotten. We never expected this to get so popular with our lack of experience of the Amnesia engine. We will never forget this mod, after seeing it get so popular and working so hard on it. We thank you all!
Well that's it... The Attic: Chapter Three is released and stable along with The Attic: Full. It's been a blast. JetlinerX and I enjoyed every moment of it, but now that all is done, we're going to end it. (Details Here!) We hope to see you all again for our next projects! Goodbye all...
Thank you for showing interest in our project!
