Blog RSS Report abuse XMPP texting : stop burning $$$ on your phone with old old old sms texts

0 comments by mosphet on Apr 19th, 2014

because sms texting is for LEMMINGS!!

If you are happy being a LEMMING burning money on OLD OLD technology go right ahead routinely allowing your privacy to be violated while eroding MY privacy..... yeah, that's not cool

So you have a smart phone?  Are you smarter than it is?  That's questionable if you pay money for OOOOLLLD sms texting:

  • it ties you down to ONE device
  • it's not actually instant:  very low network priority
  • it is NEEDLESSLY costly: you're being GOUGED  (that's bad)
  • you pay to receive unwanted messages: that's plain retarded
  • you cannot block more than a handful of people: ignoring is NOT blocking
  • you have to share your private number to participate
  • twits assume phone=OLDsms : doood, didn't you like get my sms text?
  • no reliable delivery confirmation, and not out of network at all
  • no notice of rejection
  • on and on how it costs to suck

By bright contrast zero cost (free) XMPP texting is

  • instant and instanter (real time XMPP texting)
  • available on every internets device
  • free in the usual sense (as opposed to evil apps with ads (which are NOT-free))
  • easy privacy with easy encryption (otr.cypherpunks.ca)
  • my dad made me use it but now I love it
  • OTR: no one can snoop on your messages not even the anti-american NSA
  • you can block messages
  • you can setup your contacts your way: require your approval to let them communicate, or not, or other combinations
  • any XMPP texting domains can talk to any other domain, that's federation
  • evil microsoft is bringing it closer to you by trying to hijack it's Open Standard self with Lync which also tries to hijack the other great Open Standard, SIP -- which can also be used as SIP texting
  • XMPP jingle can call, HD call, video chat, video conference, NAT traversal, easy multiplayer game coordination, and make your breakfast if you only eat bits
  • NOT require everyone to install that ONE program like skype would
  • NOT entice you into choosing a foolish nickname (one with numbers)
  • allow YOU to setup your own XMPP texting server .. federation is easy  .. xmpp.net checkup on public services security or not
  • give you leverage to spend that bucket load of monthly cash some other way that you're wasting right now on old old sms texts
  • MultiUserChat:  yes a whole whack of people all at once, and with mpOTR as securely as one on one messages or chats
  • close to  SIP SIMPLE IM
  • are you still there?

When an app shows 3rd party ads it is:  NOT-free (that's the opposite of free)

search your market (of if you've not opted to have hooks gouged into you by not opting into android "activation) or F-Droid for:  xmpp

iOS  (that's us iPhone iPad iThing users)     && android:   Chat Secure
