I play a variety of games, I don't really stick to a single game for long. I used to work on the Shattered lands mod for Men of War Assault squad, but I "left the team" a long time ago because I simply lost interest in the game, and didn't have the time to put towards a huge project being done by a small team. If I find mods that have content that is without a shadow of a doubt, stolen from another game or mod that did not give permission for it to be reused, I will report it. you don't have to like it, but I don't care. Read the fucking TOS
I decided to get a Playstation 3 last night, completing the holy trifecta of 7th generation video game nerd machines alongside the 360 and the console I keep forgetting I even own, the Wii, But I'm not going to talk about that
First and Foremost, I'm still a PC gamer at heart, I just want to keep my options open if I want to play a lot of games, and as far as I was concerened, the PS3 was always a better console, but there are still some things it lacks. So here I am, with a PC, PS3, 360 and Wii all on the same desk, remarkably it has not created a singularity, nor have the machines sprouted limbs Transformer style and tried to blow each other up
History is repeating itself with me it seems, I bought a PS2 in 2004 for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, because it wasn't coming to Xbox immediatley back then, And this year Rockstar are playing hard to get, Only releasing GTA 5 on PS3 and 360, primarily the PS3, And they are refusing to comment on the PC, It's fairly obvious it's coming, for a number of reasons, but it's a question of time.
I didn't want to wait, and besides, back to my original point of "I think the PS3 is better to have"
The two machines I have are the Xbox 360S Halo *Gaylo* Reach Edition 250GB Hard drive, and the Playstation 3 Super Slim 250GB Hard drive, Both of them are effectivley the "last generation" of their respective product lines.
Before I go into giving my opinions, I need to stress that the games I'm playing have just as much affect on performance as the hardware, Since my PS3 only has one game, plus two games that I have access to for one year through PS Plus, Saints row 3 and battlefield 3, I'll use 3 Xbox games to draw my conclusiosn as well
Appearance - 360, The PS3SuperSlim was designed not to improve the console, but to reduce costs, it's all you can buy now, and it leaves me with the feeling that I've got an underpowered machine, maybe im paranoid. It's virtually identical to the 4th generation PS3's, except smaller, draws a little less power, and is quieter and less heat *which is actually a very good thing*
Pricetag/Value - PS3, Both machines are evenly priced, but I was utterly shocked to find that I could get some AAA games for -FREE- and keep them for a full year, even if they aren't games I like, I can still use them to test the hardware and get used to the controller.
Online features - PS3, No required paid memberships, need I say more?
Ease of Use - 360, The PS3 has an incredibly long list of options and settings, hard to get used to on a console.
Ergonomics - 360, Controller is comfortable and decent sized, don't have to fuss with my big hands. PS3 lighter, but I don't really care about that
Graphics Quality,PS3 Slightly better than 360, will explain below
Graphics Playback *FPS*, PS3 again, slightly better, because...
Heat/Noise, PS3 As mentioned in appearance, Console is much quieter because of how the optical drive works, still makes that funny Playstation gear shifting noise though when playing off a disc
Conclusion - We're comparing Oranges to Tangerines here, both machines have their ups and downs. both machines you make sacrifices
The 360, Is easier to use, more comfortable to use, and a little cheaper, but in return, it's very loud, has heating problems, has a shitty online service with zero incentives, and it's hardware is slightly inferior.
The PS3 on the other hand, I beilve is a better machine in the hardware and performance department, but the price that is paid is that it's operating system is complex, and it's controller is horribly uncomfortable for a grown adult, you are basically trading experience for comfort with this machine. As for the "cost reduced cheapyness of it", I'll find out in september if it stands up to it's "last generation" title, and I'll also find out if cramming hardware into a smaller case will result in heat issues, it seems to be ok so far.
Games I was playing most often on the consoles
Xbox - Red Dead Redemption, Midnight Club Los Angeles, NHL 13
PS3 - Uncharted 3, Saints Row 3, Battlefield 3 **
sr3 and bf3 I got for free, SR3 ran like shit, but that's the game's fault, and BF3 it's not fair for me to judge the PS3 on it's "poor" performance, it's 30 FPS cap, considering I played that game on my PC at 150 FPS. Changes my perspective. I hate that game anyway,
