I tend to stare into space when I'm trying to think of ideas... Me? I'm a novice indie game dev currently working on Fountain of Life, a game where you only have seconds left to live and must gather the souls of the dead to survive.

Have you ever wondered where Fountain of Life takes place? From the prototypes you can see that it's place with a lot of people and structures, but not much more than that. Well, that's what I'm going to talk about this devlog.
A Shopping District
Yep, Fountain of Life takes place in a shopping district. It's unamed district in an unamed city some time in the near future. While it was built long ago, many of the older shops remain. It's still popular with young people nowadays thanks to various fashionable shops that have built a small shop at the location. It's a place that's usually bustling with life and activity.
Why a shopping district?
There's actually a reason why I chose most of what I chose, so I'll talk about that now. At first, I just choose a shopping district because it felt right, but now that I think about it makes sense. A shopping district is a place where many people gather, which is something important when your game is about picking up the souls of people who die.
Why is it an old shopping district? Well... that's because I'm better at drawing older looking stuff than new ones. Similarly, that's why it's popular with young people; that's what I'm best at drawing. It's a bit of a contradiction, having an old place liked by young people, but I think it's interesting.
What is one of your favorite places in a game? One place I like in particular is the Shrine of Worship from Shadow of the Colossus.
