Hi, I've been using blender for a while now and know enough to use it for animations and games, but I have never figured out how to change the alpha of an object to fade it in/ in the BGE since about version 2.49. Now I have version 2.62. Can anyone tell me how to do this as I require it for a project I am working on? Help would be appreciated.
alternatively just dimming a light would do, if someone could help me with that.
Hey I'm sorta new to game engines programming and 3D modelling. I been looking into making a game, is blender a good place to start? I also looked into unity and UDK which are free as well. What advice do you have? It's very daunting getting into this kinda stuff so if you guys can point me in the right direction on how to start I would be grateful :D
Looks like this one has gone unanswered. I would say BGE is a great place to start. Just download the latest build for your OS, start it and head to Youtube to watch "my first blender game" tutorials.
Completing those tutorials is quite inspirational and gives you ideas of your own.
Blenderartists forum is very helpful and has an entire active section for beginners.
You can start with the blender blocks (where you simply drag lines between different controllers and actuators to make things happen) and as you get more familiar with blender you can move on and see what you could do with little python scripts. With scripting, anything is possible from World of Warcraft to Civilization to Portal.
I'm a 2D stop motion animator and I have some (very very basic) 3D studio max skills. I'd like to move to Blender but I'm afraid it will be too much for me (again, I'm a traditional animator with just some experience in 3DS Max). I took a look at blendercookie tutorials but I'm still looking for something more like a PDF tutorial quickguide as transition from traditional animation to 3D (oriented to game-developing).
I was wondering if maybe here I could get pointed into the right direction? :] Thanks in advance.
Just google 'beginning blender pdf'. Somewhere in the results should be a .pdf file called 'Beginning Blender' - a very good resource.
I believe there is an option in Blender to use 3ds's hotkeys.
