greetings, I´m working in 3dsMax 8 and my question is following: I have 2 flat (call them 2D) meshes of the same object, one is from front view, second one is from side view. Is there a tool for "merging" these 2 meshes into a single corresponding 3D object or do I really have to make this manually by extracting/reshaping the side view to fit the front view or vice versa?
Thanks for respond :)
Hi, I'm a green 3d modeller too, and as far as I know, you have to extract and reshape for a 3d view. Merging two 2d objects will simply create two flat meshes merged with each other. If there is a way to do it, I'm not aware of it. Hope I could help. :)

Yeah its slowed down a bit since we dropped of the top 5 and then top 10 but good to see the groups still going strong.
Its not as active in commenting and critique as it used to be which is a huge shame.
Hey guys does anyone know how to apply a texture to a model in 3ds max 09 in such a way that the transparent (alpha) parts are transparent on the model and not black?
I have Gimp 2.6 and paint.net which I use to make the textures, save them as .GIF or .PNG files. Both paint.net and gimp open up with transparent parts but the model in 3ds max has no transparent parts only blackened areas.
Please can someone help, everyone says I must get photoshop but I can't get atm.
Hello BlitzboyII :), when you apply a texture in 3ds max 09, there will be a "opacity" or "cutout" tabs under the material (it also depends on what material your using), click on the texture to bring up more detail on that texture you applied. For example, changing the tiling or size; scroll down and you will see alpha settings, simply click under Alpha Source, Image Alpha and see if that works. :)
