RSS Feed Steam Key Important Information

Important information you need to know about grabbing your Steam copy when it launches.

Hey guys,
As we draw closer to the Steam release, I've said it quite a bit to people but just to reinforce it.

You need to have a purchased(not trial) Sky Nations Account registered for a Steam key. The Steam keys will not come from the Stores you brought SN on but from the SN site(which I'll explain how to get when they're available). If you do not have a Sky Nations account registered on the Steam release day(17th of July).
You will have to contact me by email on a case by case basis so I can confirm your purchase.

This sharp cutoff is basically because Sky Nations has been a couple of bundles during it's Greenlight campaign to help it climb the ladder, the downside of these bundles is that CD key trading companies buy large batches of keys on these then try to undercut the developer when they launch on Steam by selling the keys they bought for $1 for a significant markup but less than the retail price on the store. Which the developer has not agreed to nor do they get any cut of. The resale of keys like this is not allowed and illegal but most of these companies operate in countries with shady copyright and intellectual property laws. This quite a large scale problem for indie developers. So I've got to do all I can to protect against this. If I give them the Steam keys on the platforms they purchased the game on they'll simply sell the Steam keys. It's much more awkward for them to sell actual Sky Nations accounts with usernames and passwords, it's also very easy to track.

The majority of the Store fronts will also move to selling keys to the Steam version rather than the current SN native keys that you register on our site which means new customers won't have to worry about this.

You can register your Sky Nations account by grabbing the CD key from the Store you bought it from and using it on the register page below to create an account.

If you have any questions post them in the news post:

Or Email me at:

After the deadline email if you missed it and I'll try to get through people on a case by case basis. But the fastest way is too make sure you register now. Then you're golden!

Thanks for your understanding guys,

Like I remember where I bought your game from to get another cdkey to register somewhere, etc...

This is a cumbersome and anti-customer practice that you're proposing. How about you just put the steam keys to the bundles and Desura, a while after the Steam release? Let's say, 2-3 weeks - this still will be punishing everybody who bought earlier, but you will get the release sales without having that reseller competition.

I get where you're coming from. I know people don't like registering on sites. The way SN works and since it's on a couple of stores is that the registration works for basically people to have unique usernames over all servers. No one can pose to be me, no one can pose to be you. So giving people a central place to pick up the key where if they're actually interested in playing the game they'll have to do either way seems like a good idea to me. Before it was on Steam when people bought from these stores. Which is everyone currently since it's not released as of writing this. They knew they had to register an account on the SN site. This has never not been so and on the buy page of the website it takes you through the purchasing steps including registration. If you're not Ok with that. That is absolutely fine. There's nothing to say you have to buy the game if it does something that conflicts with your beliefs. It's poignant to note that people who own it on Desura are receiving a free key, this wasn't a requirement. Some platforms have been promised keys. I just wanted to make sure everyone has the same experience.

I'm sorry that you feel that is anticonsumer and that it's upset you.
