Eons after the human civilization has crumbled upon itself, its nomadic descendants, known as the Legion of Man, are uncovering long-forgotten knowledge and technology. Devastating weapons help them fight a violent battle for their very existence, against a monstruous enemy, the Beast Horde. A race of beings evolved from the wildlife that survived the apocalyptic wars, they use brute force and the powerful magic of nature to punish the humans.

Savage XR, the successor of the 2003 award winning PC game “Savage: Battle for Newerth”, delivers a unique team-based gaming experience, defining a new genre: RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter). As a field player, you will master diverse weapons and units engaged in a fast paced battle. The FPS mode boasts a truly one-of-a-kind melee system, rewarding genuine player skill. In the RTS mode, as the commander of your team, you will manage your economy and resources, develop a robust tech tree, plan your assault and lead real human players to battle.

Its been out of beta for sometime. We are on our 3rd Release Candidate which is currently rock solid stable but has some unfinished features that have been disabled like VOIP and the Beast tutorial. We plan to enable these features when we release version 1.0 in the coming months. We went down this route so that we could release our work early to the public to gather feedback. Saying that we regularly hotfix the RC3 clients & servers via our in house autoupdater to maintain its stability / apply security fixes (i.e. introduce new anti cheat measures).

If I'm being honest we should have renamed RC3 to version 1.0 when it became apparent that the general community would use this base install on a long term basis and renaming the up and coming release v2.0 but the installer was already widely available online. For the release of version 1.0 we plan to use a formal versioning strategy.

Maybe I haven't played for long enough, but after about 15 matches humans won... 2. This game is quite heavily imbalanced, giving adventage to beasts. "Humans are better at range". I've seen two legionnaires shooting a single predator (for those not playing - same tier units), the predator just walked up to them and killed them both. And it's not a single situation, it happens all the time.

You might also find this strategy guide :

and the game wiki useful:

They are both full of tips on playing the game.

Games can go either way depending on when you play, who is playing (one very good player or commander can cause a team to continuously win) and on what server you play on with smaller servers usually effected more by skill imbalances and players leaving (like in most fps games). The idea that "Humans are better at range" is true and is why it is generally a good idea to avoid melee confrontations with beast by using your Relocator item (or teleporter for people unfamiliar with the game).

I have a suggestion: try playing with both races. Until you get the hang of the game, you'll find out that both of them are equally strong, or weak, depending if you're facing them or playing them :).

Playing both sides will give you a proper view on the game. Killing veterans is equally hard, and being killed is equally easy, so just give it a little time.

Thanks for reply! Just wanted to ask: "on what server you play on" - I've seen only about two moderately active servers, am I missing something? As to relocators, should I place them near my base? That would mean I should flee every battle and not kill any opponents if I just relocate every time a beast is near me, especially on maps with not much open space. There's just no way of killing a beast before it gets to you (I'm a newbie, excuse my newbieness please).

Hey Piciek.

Skill comes with time. If you face an opponent that has played 5000+ games, you can be sure he will kill you, no matter what your race is, what his race is, or what game are you playing :), from chess to starcraft, from pinball to paintball :).

Besides skill, a proper selection of items is absolutely necessary. Reloc is one of them, and you don't have to flee every time you see an enemy, but when you really are in danger of dying.

For now, try playing on Multiplayer #1 server. And even if beasts will have somewhat more game wins, the humans always have more kills, twice as many, actually. It's just that beasts are more mobile and can exploit a mistake of the human team faster, but that reloc and the medkits save humans a lot of deaths!

It depending on what time zone you're in. If your in the Euro zone then try:
Newerth.com <-(This is where I play)

If you're on the Americas then try:

Sunday evening's (like tonight) are the busiest time period and when you get the very best in games.

As a new player it's probably advised to stick with other groups of players and relocate unless you know you have a large numbers advantage. The key strength of humans is the ability to avoid death and retain the gold it costs to get the stronger units like the Legionnaire and is why you will see that beast die far more often than humans in the player statistics. It might sounds like you're always fleeing battle but this is quite realistic of war:

"He that fights and runs away, may turn and fight another day; but he that is in battle slain, will never rise to fight again." - Tacitus

I hope you keep trying and get over the steep learning curve :-) There really is no other game like this and when you do master it you'll get a satisfaction you can't find from console-tard games that hold your hand.
