Love it!
Fun game, runs very well on even our most modest PC (XP, 4GB RAM, e5200 dual core, 9800GT, xbox 360 wired controller). I really like the upgrade system, visuals and music. Controller support is spot on. It does get a bit repetitive after a few levels since it's always the same progression. Still, I'd rank it up with some of the other indie twin stick shooters like Bullet Candy and Scoregasm.
Thanks for making it available for free!
Read about this on Rock Paper Shotgun and had to check it out, and I'm very glad I did. Great looking, amazing music and quality voice work. I love the visual design with the words popping up everywhere, although I admit that some might find it a little busy - I was okay with it, but then I'm a Beat Hazard fan so I'm used to that sort of thing. I played through the main storyline and spent almost exactly 30 minutes in Endurance, playing with a control pad. A few hours well spent - I'll return to this for sure.
Thanks for the kind words. I created Bezier for players exactly like yourself. Many thanks for trying it out.
Just finished the campaign on and normal and that was a blast to play through. Only thing I didn't like was that it got pretty repetitive after about the 8th level since it was rinse and repeat; find shields, destroy and avoid Magus for 30 some seconds. Do you plan on adding any special events or mix it up a bit in how players complete the levels? I really liked that other ship bit on one of the levels.
I played around a lot with zone progression. Initially there was an Outrun-style split at the end of each zone with many paths through the game, but the choice (however I presented it) confused the 'blaster minded' sensibility you find yourself in whilst playing. So linear zones were best. As you climb the Player levels and re-visit earlier zones more and more different enemies will become unlocked and begin attacking you. So replaying the game over and over should be a progressive experience. Your ship becomes more powerful too as you apply upgrades and start getting the performance bonuses from the achievements. Many thanks for playing. Glad you found it a blast.
So far, I have a really positive feeling about this game, and I'm having a lot of fun. I will make a post with full details of what I've enjoyed (and what I think could use some tweaks) once I'm finished with the campaign.
It may take a while though, since I still haven't beaten level 3 :p
I made it to level 10, so I think my impressions on this game are fixed by now.
VISUAL: I really like how you went for a minimalistic and colourful approach. The "firework effect" when you fire at something is quite beautiful too, though in my opinion it makes the screen hardly readable in some situations (around shields especially): I sometimes had to navigate "blind".
SOUND: Amazing choice of soundtracks, and really cool voice effects. I also enjoy the text being simultaneously layed out on screen.
GAMEPLAY: Controls are smooth, ship responds well. I really love how much content you put into it, with a lot of upgrades and new enemies / shield mechanics at each level. I find the "auto-aim" button to be quite useful, too useful even, as I use it 80% of the time (gamepad). Firing at enemies and seeing them burst in colors is really satisfying.
STORY: I didn't really get what was going on, maybe I missed a few blue portals or am just too dumb. Anyway, I didn't really expected a story for a schmup, so it doesn't matter to me.
DIFFICULTY: I don't find it too hard so far (on normal mode), the time limit is well set imho, a lot of pressure, but still feasable. Only annoying thing is the lack of visibility on screen when everything explodes, but it may also be linked to my framerate dropping significantly in this kind of situation. I would have enjoyed the possibility to turn the visual effects down a little bit.
A really fun and beautiful game, that you seem to have really well polished during your 6 years development process. I hope your future games follow this trend.
Very well-made game! A bit difficult and confusing on my first try, though.
Thanks for giving it a spin. Could I ask, what OS did you run on? and did you control with pad or mouse/keys? The latter can be somewhat tricky at the moment.
