Turn Based Tactics

Minion Master is a genre-busting game that combines elements of tabletop games, real-time and turn based strategy games, and collectible card games. The game brings together the moment-to-moment tactics of collectible card games with the long-term strategy of miniature war gaming. Players battle with armies of figurines on a hex-based board. Minions are summoned and controlled using a custom built deck of cards. Minion Master boasts 6 player versus multiplayer (with co-op on the way), a Deck Builder, Level Editor, and a constantly expanding universe of Minions to control. Inspired by physical RPG board and card games while simultaneously adding in elements that are only possible in a virtual world, Minion Master is available for pre-order on PC.

This game coud have been something very special but it seems that the developers have abandoned it. It's a very fun game. You can design your own maps which by itself creates very interesting tactical possibilities. However, for some odd reason, the deck editor requires you to be connected to the Minion Masters website - which is DEAD. So, if you've wanted to customize your deck it is not possible. If, like me you bought expansion packs, you are **** out of luck. Desura needs to make buyers aware of this problem and reduce the price since the core of any deck based game IS deck customization.

You can play singleplayer against the AI and while it IS fun, the inability to build decks severely hampers this game's longevity. As you CAN play singleplayer, it doesn't make sense why the devs did not provide for offline deckbuilding. As such, there are better and less expensive alternatives such as Etherlords I and II, the official Magic the Gathering Games, Hand of Fate, Scrolls, as well as open source MTG games that you can play against the AI with full rules enforcement.

This game is discontinued, buyer beware. It looks like the website with the notice about it doesn't even exist any more either. I've no idea if it can still be played, but I'm pretty sure it was only a multiplayer game.

It is also a singleplayer game and is quite good, BUT, the developers, in their less than infinite wisdom chose to put the deckbuilding component as online ONLY. It makes no sense. You design battlefields offline and play against the AI, but, the premade decks are all you have. The game is dead. Had the developers made deckbuilding offline, it would be a very good singleplayer game.

Looks like it combines Masters of Monsters and a card game? Kinda odd mix.. might be interesting.

Looking interesting. Will this be pay to win where you have to buy cards and stuff which you need to rebuy every few weeks? Or only that one time payment of 20 dollars mentioned on the website?

It is a collectible card game. The $20 purchase gets you a set of 266 cards. That's many, but not all of the cards. Booster packs are also available at the website. However, matches are based on deck weight--two decks of equal weight are viable against each other, regardless of who has "better" cards.
