Miner Wars 2081 is a 6DOF action-survival space-shooter simulation-game set in the year 2081, 10 years after the destruction of all planetary objects in the Solar System.
You operate an advanced mining ship in a fully destructible and open-world environment, which remains persistent as you complete missions or play online with others. Realism and survival are key aspects of gameplay. Inventory and the way you use resources such as fuel, ammunition, oxygen, ore, and weapons are important when surrounded by dozens of warring factions.
The gameplay is driven by an epic story and offers a choice of single player, co-op, and death-match multi-player.
The story will introduce you to many types of missions: rescue, exploration, revenge, base defense, theft, transportation, stealth, search and destroy, pure harvesting, racing, or just flying around and destroying everything you see.

Credits for the story, will be sure to check this all out.
I like how this is coming along, but I really think you guys should ditch the "Active internet connection during installation and during game play!" part. Had I saw it back then, I never would have purchased it. It's more explicit now at least.
I've been messing with this Alpha for about a year now and I've been disconnected a number of times. This is unacceptable for a single player game. And yeah I have a great internet connection. I'm not interested in the MMO part at all right now.
I'm writing an article on bad DRM practices and sadly you guys are in it.
Agreed, I will buy when it's available offline.
I would pay big money for this game if it required no internet connection. FoxFav trust me you're not the only one that thinks this... honestly wish the developers would do something about that rather than just kinda diverting the question with an answer on why this game ONLY works with an internet connection. We understand that all the information is being taken from a server somewhere, but if THIS many people are asking for an offline version that they would pay for, you think that'd be some sort of incentive for the developers of Miner Wars to make one.
I agree - too many bad experiences of always on for single player. I don't play MMOs, I have to play nicely with people all day at work and want to play my games in peace against the computer. Until there is a standalone version that doesn't require the internet I won't be buying.
I bought this game through the website, is there a way to activate it through Desura?
not at the moment, but since we plan on selling on Steam as well (and our fans would like this possibility, ie. activating the same licence key on Steam/Desura), it will probably be possible. We'll keep you updated in the news section here.
If we buy MW2081 on Desura, is there a chance we'll get a Steam key in the future? (I've had a handful of games do this when they were greenlit, like Gnomoria)
In case anybody is wondering - if you plug the CD key Desura gives you into the MinerWars2081 homepage, under your profile - then you get a Steam key! :D
