A free-roaming squad based RPG. Focusing on open-ended gameplay features rather than a linear story. Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a mercenary, a business owner, a doctor, a bandit... the list goes on. Aid or oppose the various factions in the world while striving for the strength and wealth necessary to simply survive in the harsh desert. Purchase and upgrade your own buildings to use as safe fortified havens when things go bad, or use them to start up a business. Train your men up from puny victims to master warriors. Carry your wounded squad mates to safety and get them all home alive.

I've finally got round to kickstarting Kenshi.  Please help out if only by facebook-liking the campaign page.  There's some cool rewards to be had by donating. The rewards will give you the opportunity to appear in the game yourself as an NPC, or even create your own faction.

In other news, I'm still working on adding constructable buildings to the game, and I estimate about 2 weeks for the first update. Buildings can now be added and removed by a character, including all the underlying technical stuff like updating the pathfinding system and loading/saving. Now I'm taking care of all the little things like building material consumption, interior furnishing, placement varification.

The plan is that I will make the first update quite quickly.  This means you will be able to build a building, but not do much with it at first.  The features that will be added in the first series of updates, in approximate order are:

  • Place storage containers.
  • Place beds, where you can rest an heal quicker
  • Add doors to keep enemies out
  • Mining for resources
  • Farming
  • Crafting
  • Research
  • Defensive upgrades and turrets
  • Add ladders, so you can use multiple floors

I said it once and, for arguments' sake, I'll say it again: If only I could play it natively on my Linux-box I would've definitely gotten it way back when it was first announced... :(

Based on the average donation:
You need about 1622 donors.

There are more than 1700 trackers here on ModDB, so I hereby announce that this campaign is likely to reach its goal!
Yay! :D

EDIT: The average was just raised by a few dollars... and all my calculations were done in vain... xD

Hmm. Was tempted to kickstart. But.. I just didnt like that a copy of the game doesn't come in till 25$ when the game is currently for sale at your site for 10. Just seems silly.

Then buy it for $10 and give $5 at IndieGoGo?
$5 isn't much, right?

Looking at all these planned things and all these cool updates really tempting me to buy Kenshi. Right now I only have the demo. Is the full version worth buying?

Even in this alpha state I would say yes. Being able to play with a lot of characters is fun (i tend to make smaller groups sending them everywhere over the map) and it allows you to fight bigger fights (take down a city for example).
But if that's not enough, think about what's to come, at some point you will probably (be forced) want to buy the full game, so why wait out when you could have it now for a lesser price?

Kickstarting? Using IndieGoGo? Perhaps actually using Kickstarter -_-. IndieGoGo only has a very very small fraction of the traffic KS does...

Kickstarter only allow US citizens to make projects. Its a big setback for me. Don't rub it in ;)

If the funding doesn't reach the goal, it doesn't matter, the money will make things get done faster and easier, but I will make the game regardless. Also IndieGoGo still give me the money if the goal isn't reached so its alright.
