I am running the 64bit version of xubuntu 12.10. Installing the missing 32bit packages fixed the issues for me. (running ldconfig is not required)
All you need to do is run the following:
sudo apt-get install libjpeg62:i386 libcggl:i386
Addictive, fun game. I've been playing this for a couple of months, and it has surprising depth. I'm running this on my Asus laptop with Intel integrated graphics and it looks and runs great. I was surprised by how replayable it is. For the money, this is a colorful and exciting game. I'm hoping to see expansions and add-ons down the line.
Installer did not include libalut.so.0 library file. Will not load for me in Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. Please include all dependencies with your game.
Creative mode menu isn't appearing, neither is additional creative buildings.
I've got no SFX in V 1.18, only music. Tried reinstalling open al, but it didn't work. Had no problems in previous versions.
The game looks great but how to I get the laser towers to fire at the enemies? They just stand there and wait until the UFOs crash into them :-( In one game, I had five laser towers and the enemies destroyed all buildings of mine without firing once.
Do you have the towers linked to your power plants? They need energy to function.

It needs to be in a folder listed in LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Try to run /sbin/ldconfig (should update the shared lib cache) or copy it into .../desura/lib/
I put the *.so file in that folder to no avail. Rerunning ldconfig doesn't appear to do much either.
