New Updates Coming Soon!!!

The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

LA Caelum useless?

Hey guys, I'm getting interested in high mobility. I recently played a unitgen blitz where I had great flying units that wrecked my opponent.

The closest in CBM 1.94 seems to be Caelum. I mean, where else to look but the nation of flying people?

But I'm finding LA Caelum really difficult to use, for the following reasons:-
1. Friggin high encumberance.
2. No decent thugs, unless summon Yazads using astral, which NONE of the mages have.
3. Research per penny is subpar.

The only thing which I found great was overtax patrolling with flying units. I could literally build another fort on turn 3.

I also heard about the archers, but come on, it's not a decent strategy without a strong frontline which is sorely lacking.

Probably the other strength is that it *can* be a great anti-thug/SC nation with the ice blades/knives.

But I think that Caelum ought to be more than this. Something shocking. Am I missing something?

You might want to try asking your question differently.  It's a bit disingenuous to post "LA Caelum useless?"

A better question is "How do I use LA Caelum effectively?"  And to assist with that question, here are some tips.

Start here with Fantomen's guide to LA Caelum

Once you have a look at that, ask away with more questions.  I've played LA Caelum a bit.  Fantomen is a lot more experienced but she's not very active here.  You can always post questions for her in that thread on dom3mods.

thanks maer, it's good reference :)

any tips on the gear/accompanying troops for a raven guard captain thug? say against pd.

i'll probably need to try out the mechanical constructs and corspe men to get a better sense.

It's been ages since I played LA Caelum.  I don't have time right now but I'll try to remember to get back to this.

Okay, first off the best bet is a piercer using your iron crafters to make it cheap.  And probably that's the best option forever.

I would also empower one ironcrafter in death and maybe one in air.  You will make back the empower fast enough.  That opens up a lot of other options.  You save 2 gems on every 5 gem item and 3 gems on any 10 gem item.  It's easy enough to make boosters to get to E2, and D2.  Harder to get to A2.  Fantomen talks about hammers but that's not really an option in CBM 1.94.  And D2 let's you forge mentors at a discount.  That's huge.

I would not melee with the captain.  You are better off having him lead a small group of ravens and shoot.  That way he won't be killed and cause a rout.  That's especially important if you are behind enemy lines.  Ravens are basically identical in combat and a lot cheaper.

The storm general is a great thug with a brand.  With a lucky water random you can give him a frost brand and his shield is fine so you don't need more.  Use them in pairs.  They are especially awesome in front of thunderstrike spam due to the 100% lightning resist.

Since when did Storm Generals have magic, Maer? Outside of CBM at least?

Caldius Apr 4 2013, 1:53pm Anchor

maer, do you mean the ironcrafter having a W random to craft the brand? i don't think that they can get W...
but the caelian seraph gets a W, no discount though.

Iron Crafters are E1 and Ice Crafters are W1 in vanilla. Both have forge bonus. To get other paths, you need to empower them.

The other mages don't have forge bonus but have randoms.

me see no ice crafters for LA caelum...

they got kidnapped by Atlantis!!!

Maerlande Apr 4 2013, 2:28pm Anchor

They don't have magic Edi.  I use them as melee with magi.  That's what I meant.

Caldius: I meant a water random on a seraph yes.  I'm not sure the discount is as important with water for a few brands.

And yes.  No ice crafters in LA.

Oops, my bad, that. Memory playing tricks on me again. Sorry.
