In Anodyne, you explore and fight your way through nature, urban and abstract themed areas in the human Young's subconscious, evoked by a 16-bit-era visual style and a moody, dream-like soundtrack.
The player moves between rooms 160x160 pixels in size, an intended constraint that we used to create the monster-filled dungeons you will navigate and the set of nature-based (and sometimes stranger) places you will explore.
Anodyne is on Steam Greenlight, please vote for it.

Definitely enjoying the game. One quick question: I ran into an glitchy area near the boss who talks about fire. Is that an intentional hidden area, or did I just make the game bug out? I was able to exploit it to get into a room that I couldn't otherwise access. I couldn't get back out though.
I know the spot you're talking about, and it seems there are some really well hidden secret blocks according to the dev on this gamefaqs post: Gamefaqs.com
Dear god, beating the game was only the beginning
Any chance of settings being saved between runs? It doesn't seem to do that :/
It's a great game so far though, so keep it up :)
I have it on my to-do list to attempt to do!! Thanks!
Okay I fixed this and it will be in 1.505 .
How do you play it on the mac?
You can download the full installer as a standalone.
Haha, wow, hm... I actually didn't look at the LA beach at all while I was designing that area. But I have played that game countless times, so maybe it rubbed off on me.
It's possible - Jon did most of that area's level design and he has a lot of tributes to LA.
